NGF to parley with UN scribe on devt


The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) will meet with the Secretary General of the United Nation, Ban K-Moon on Sunday, August 23 to discuss the Sustainable Development Goals, the successor programme to the Millennium Development Goals (MGDs).
The Forum, which met in Abuja on Wednesday night, said the meeting is important because, of role of state governors, as critical stakeholders, are expected to play in the implementation of the programme.
Chairman of the Forum, Governor Abdul’aziz Yari, who read the communiquĂ© at the end of the meeting, said the parley with K-Moon will be a follow to the one NGF had in 2011with the UN scribe, to assess the implementation of the MDGs. The UN had set 2015 to reduce extreme poverty in developing countries.
Governor Yari disclosed that following the presentation made by the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) on the operations of the National Integrated Power Project, the Forum resolved to appeal for a more comprehensive power sector policy and strategy, with a view to achieving a holistic solution to the power situation in the country.
